Express Entry program was launched on 1 January 2015. The primary purpose was to facilitate faster selection of skilled and qualified applicants that will help the Canadian economy and social fabric. It is an application management system that has essentially three components:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
- Federal Skilled Trade Program (FST)
- Canadian Experience Class Program (CEC)
Express Entry uses a points-based system known as Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The profiles of candidates are picked up based on their rankings. Therefore, the top-ranking profiles, that is candidates scoring high points are picked up in routine draws conducted by IRCC. The selected candidates are subsequently issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) based on which they are required to submit their application for permanent residency. All necessary supporting documents that formed the candidate’s total score must be uploaded within 60 days of receiving the ITA. Once the final application is approved, IRCC issues a Confirmation of Permanent Residency (COPR). The person is authorized to complete the landing process and get is PR Card in about 3 months of landing in Canada.
Let us have a quick look at the basic pre-requisites that are needed to apply under the Express Entry.
For FSW:
- CLB 7 in all four segments of language proficiency test (i.e., Band 6 in IELTS)
- 1-year continuous full time work experience in last 10 years.
- NOC 0, A, B
- Proof of funds
- Credential assessment by WES/IQAS/equivalent
For FST:
- CLB 5 (English or French) in Speaking and Listening
- CLB 4 (English or French) in Reading and Writing
- Meet all job requirements as per NOC (except Provincial certification)
- Have an LMIA approved Full Time job offer from one or two employers OR
- 1 year certificate of qualification in a skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial body
- Work Experience of 2 years Full time or equivalent in the last 5 years. It may not be continuous.
For CEC:
- CLB 7 for NOC 0, A
- CLB 5 for NOC B
- 1 year paid work experience (non-continuous allowed) in the last 3 years. It may be Full Time or even Part Time.
- No proof of funds if employed.
- No ECA mandatory.
Canada’s economic Immigration programs are known as benchmark for almost every country in the world to attract skilled people because of its merit-based approach. There has been a good deal of economic immigration program including Federal skilled worker, Caregiver Class and various Provincial Nominee Programs for the people who wish to immigrate to Canada based on the management and technical skills.
Express Entry works on the complete Ranking system that takes into account the following factors
= Human Capital Factors including education, age, official languages and Canadian work experience of the applicants.
= Skill Transferability which depends upon the mix of foreign & Canadian work experience. Canadian or foreign education, language ability and certificate of Qualification for business person.
= some additional Factors including Provincial Nomination, arranged employment, Eligible relative who is Canadian Citizen of PR.
